Mexican wood lacquerware. Hand carved, hand painted 13" round plaque. Purchased in Patzcuaro in the state of Michoacan, Mexico, 1986. Black lacquer on front and back with delicately drawn gold filigree design on the front of leaves and flowers with a stylized bird of paradise in the center. Ombre-painted colors of green, turquoise and sapphire blue, mauve, and dark orange applied to leaves and flowers in central design. Signed by artist: "Antonio Velazquez V." Excellent condition except for 3" hairline crack (barely noticeable) on one side. Item #109
