Annual Conference “2001: an LA Odyssey”
The Art Libraries Society of
North America will hold its 29th annual conference at the Wilshire
Grand Hotel in Los Angeles, Calif., March 29-April 4, 2001.
The Art Libraries Society of
North America provides a forum for the ideas, projects, and programs of art
information professionals in the United States and Canada. The membership includes architecture
and art librarians, visual resources professionals, artists, curators,
educators, publishers, and others interested in visual arts information. They work in such varied settings as
museums, art schools, architectural offices, artists' and architects' professional
organizations, colleges and universities, public libraries, and as independent
information brokers. To serve this
diverse constituency, the Society provides a wide range of programs and
services and promotes participation at all levels. ARLIS/NA is a growing, dynamic organization promoting the interests
of nearly 1,300 members.
The 29th Annual
Conference will be offering a wide variety of tours, workshops and programs,
many of which will feature the city of Los Angeles itself in keeping with the
theme of “2001: an LA Odyssey”. Tours include visits to Watts Towers, Union Station,
Pershing Square, Little Tokyo, and the Museum of Neon Art Night cruise. Workshops on film resources, space
planning, special vocabularies, subject cataloging, statistics and approval
plans are also being offered.
Conference programs will focus on what the art information specialist
needs to know and will feature sessions on Encoded Archival Description,
Managing Moving Image Collections, Copyright Fair Use, Native American art, and
artists’ books to name just a few.
