ARLIS/NA News Release
For Immediate Release
The Art Libraries Society of
North America (ARLIS/NA) is pleased to announce receipt of a grant in the
amount of $4,200 from the Getty Grant Program of the J. Paul Getty Trust to
support the participation of Gu Yinhai, Deputy Manager of the Library of the
Shanghai Museum at the 29th Annual Conference in Los Angeles, March 29th-April
4th. Mr. Gu will be a
featured speaker at a session on libraries and publishing in China sponsored by
the ARLIS/NA International Relations Committee, "Treasures of the Dragon:
Exploring Art Libraries and Publishing in China". Art librarians
attending the conference will hear first-hand accounts of issues and trends in
publishing and librarianship in China.
Gu is head of a major art library in China and has authored a
substantial body of publications about China’s cultural heritage.
ARLIS/NA has a longstanding
commitment to developing strong and vital links with art librarians around the
world. The ARLIS/NA International
Relations Committee organizes internationally focussed conference panel
sessions, inviting art librarians from abroad to participate as speakers. These activities enhance mutual
knowledge and expand the horizons of ARLIS/NA members.
The Getty Grant Program
fosters work of exceptional merit for which resources are otherwise
limited. It supports a wide range
of projects that promote research in the history of art and related fields,
advancement of the understanding of art, and conservation of cultural
heritage. Previous grants from the
Getty Grant Program to ARLIS/NA have generously supported three art librarians
from South America to participate in our 28th annual conference
(Pittsburgh) and ten Eastern European art librarians for our 21st
annual conference (San Francisco).
