Conference Workshops–Tours–Special Events with Fees

If cancellation of an entire tour, workshop, or special event is necessary due to weather, transportation problems, and/or under-subscription, all registrants will be informed as quickly as possible via e-mail or telephone. Conference preregistrants will also be notified if events for which they have paid are already fully subscribed. Substitutions will be offered if possible. Refunds will be mailed during the month immediately following the conference. No on-site refunds will be made.

Confirmations

Confirmation letters will be mailed approximately three weeks after receipt of registration form. Registration forms received after March 20 cannot be guaranteed to be confirmed before start of conference.

Conference Packets

Name badges and packets will be distributed to each conference attendee at the ARLIS/NA Registration Desk. Packets will contain a receipt reflecting payment of conference registration. Representatives will be available at the registration desk throughout the conference to provide attendees with suggestions for dining, entertainment, activities, and directions. A Local Attractions Guidebook, prepared by members of the Southern California Chapter, will be included in each conference packet.

Open Meeting and Guest Policy

ARLIS/NA business meetings are open to all members. All guests are encouraged to register for the full conference. If not preregistered, guests will be permitted to join tours and special events on a space available basis after all registered attendees have been accommodated.

First Time Attendees and Mentor Program

If you are interested in having an experienced member of ARLIS/NA assigned to serve as your Mentor to advise you and introduce you to ARLIS/NA colleagues during the conference, you should sign up for the Conference Mentor Program. For more information, contact Ursula Kolmstetter, Los Angeles Mentor Program Coordinator, at 317/920-2662, ext. 225; fax: 317/926-8931; e-mail: ukolmstetter@ima-art.org, fill out the Mentor Program Application form in the Preliminary Program or go to the mentor registration page on arlis/na.org

If you have never attended the annual conference, we heartily encourage you to do so. Although the Society has grown over the years, you will find our conferences very intimate and friendly, with many special interest group events. If you aren’t already a member of a Committee, Section, Division, or Round Table, check out the "Meeting Finder" at the beginning of this program booklet to see if any of the many interest groups appeal to you. We encourage you to attend any of these business meetings if you are interested. If you would like more information prior to the conference, you are welcome to contact the current chair of the group, located on the ARLIS/NA web page at www.arlisna.org. Find names under "Contacts" and e-mail addresses in the "Address Book." The conference provides you with a great opportunity to network with many of your colleagues working in similar positions throughout North America. Bring your questions, experiences, and business cards!

You are cordially invited to attend a short New Member Orientation on Saturday night from 7:00 pm to 7:30 pm. Later on Saturday evening, please plan to attend the Welcome Party from 9:30 pm-11:00 pm.

Tours and Workshops

Tours and workshops are described on their own pages.

Silent Auction and Happy Hour

Last year's silent auction was so successful, and profitable (!), we decided to continue what may well become a conference tradition. Instead of baskets of goodies, however, we are asking individual members, chapters, and vendors to contribute an item they have made individually or collectively, e.g., a quilt, a sweater, a pot, an artist book, a piece of jewelry, a watercolor, a jar of jam, etc. Memorable or interesting purchased objects will also be accepted. They will be placed in or near to the Exhibit Hall, in appropriate specialty "boutique" areas, e.g., an art gallery, country store, wine shop, jewelry boutique, bookstore, clothes shop, gift shop, etc., depending on what we receive. Donors receive an acknowledgment for their tax records, though ARLIS/NA is not permitted to assign a value. The purpose of the event, including a Happy Hour Reception, to be held on Monday 5:30-7:30 pm, is threefold: 1) to interact informally with conference exhibitors in a lively atmosphere; 2) to showcase the ARLIS/NA community's prodigious creativity; and 3) to begin a fund for conference speakers who are not Society members. Contact Judith Herschman at the University of California, Los Angeles: (310) 206-5426 or jherschm@library.ucla.edu as far in advance as possible.

Refunds

Registrants will be notified if events for which they have paid are fully subscribed and refunds will be mailed during the month immediately following the conference. No on-site refunds will be made.

Guest Policy

Registrants wishing to bring a guest to any conference events, please observe the Guest Policy printed in the conference program, page 4.m [(see page ??)].
